Ron Colosi
“The Invader GT was build by Autokit in Alameda, California, in the 1970s. Company owner Bruce Weeks designed the VW-based kit car while in college and sold kits in both the United States and Europe. The basic kit (minus the doors) sold for $695 in 1973 and the deluxe kit (with plexi doors, upholstery, seats, and hinges) was an additional $200. The windshield is from a VW Karmann Ghia. The Invader was featured in the Oct. '73 issue of Popular Mechanics and the July '72 Road & Track. When Autokit went under Kaylor bought the molds  (Sun Ray Products 612/780-0774).”

This is a car I put together.  I found the body at a local shop.  I had a '71 Ghia chassis from a parts car.  I totally restored the chassis but I put bug pans on to receive the kit.  I rebuilt the DP engine personally to stock specs. Recent improvements I made are recessed tail lights, dual baby webers, grey smoke metallic paint and I custom made the doors to replace the original plexiglass design. The current doors allow for the top panels to be removed like “T” tops.  This car doesn't turn heads, it is a spectacle.
