This is my current VW. Think of it as sort of a dune buggy with doors. Everything under the body assembles the same way. All you do is spend more on it and do much more work. I built it in 94 from the now defunct Classic Motor Carriages (CMC) outfit in Florida. Had it driveable in 5 months time and spent another year on the details. It's a 57 Porshe Speedster replicar, on a 74 IRS bug chassis. I drive it as much as time allows and it often makes the 50 mile round trip to work It's a 1600 dp with dual 34 ICT Webers with a CB electronic ignition and drives through a special 3:44 IRS transaxle. This set-up works real good or this car. I would strongly reccomend the dual ICT's to anyone, they're a snap to set-up, stay tuned, good driveability and absolutely no headaches. Used a stock 3:88 R&P for a couple of years and would reccomend it over the early bug transaxle ratios. This 3:44 R&P with the stock gear splits of a later transaxle is just more of a good thing (but only with stock size tires). After quite a few buggy's and a 914, this has been a fun car that I plan to keep a while longer. Would love to get another buggy done sometime and have been saving some parts for the next project! |
