| OK, it wasn’t the best day, but it was a whole lot better than what was predicted. Too bad, a lot of people missed out on a very pleasant and enjoyable day with all weathermen forecasting rain! I’ve never been one to listen to the news or weather warnings simply because I think that that it’s all part of a big hoax by the media. In my opinion, they’re trying to create a perfect TV viewer-ship world where we never leave our home and always stay glued to the TV! It improves their ratings, they get richer and all we have to do is miss out on a having a real life where we see and feel the sun and rain? Sorry to ramble and I‘ll get of the soap box now, but sometimes they just piss me off. Anyway, as a result of poor forecasting by the media, it was the topless classes that had the biggest hits in attendance. As a matter of fact, only 4 Dune Buggies made it, historically our largest group and couple of bug convertibles, again down quite a bit. For the cars that could tolerate a little rain, mostly the tin-tops, like the early (67-) and late (68+) sedan classes, they actually were well represented. By the end of the day, no rain with not a single drop all day while at Hebert's, in total 52 VW cars were registered with a good showing from our Corvair friends also. Although I can not list everyone, a near perfect 1957 sedan owned by John Henry almost won everything and seemed to be everyones favorite. I believe that it was a 4- trophy day walking away with the Best of Show, Best Interior, Hebert's Personal Best Car and of course the early sedan class win. A very nice car. As always, the grounds are really great, lot’s of grass, a huge tent and shade trees, the Hebert's build your own ice cream bar, food vendor and great DJ (Jim DiGennero). All we needed was better weather and the other 100 cars we normally would have on a sunny day! Like always the parts vendors area was well represented (Randi Roberts of Clifton, NY and his NOS air-cooled parts, Bill MacGregor Jr. the Junkyard Artist, Elliott Satenstein of Aftermarket VW Parts and the occasional car for sale in the lot). Many thanks to all that helped in the preparation, everything was in place for a big show, as it turned out the smaller than expected crowd allowed all of the workers to relax a little and probably enjoy the show a little more this year. Here’s a few photo’s from the show for you to view. Also, I guess that we have to start thinking about next year's show, but first, we have the Open House at Colonial VW’s and the Christmas Party to finish off the years activities. Keep you bug running, plenty of time to work on it this winter, summer is just way too short around here :-) |
